IRCTC Shubh Yatra Loyalty Program with SBI Card

Indian railway’s subsidiary IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Limited) has launched a Frequent Traveler Programme called Shubh Yatra, in association with SBI card.

Benefits of IRCTC Shubh Yatra
Only those who book tickets at IRCTC site can avail the benefits of Shubh Yatra programme. The programme entitles travelers to get back 10 % of the ticket fare as railway points on all AC classes, except 3AC. The points, thus collected can be used for buy free railway tickets online.

Railway points can be earned at all AC classes, except AC III. The points accrued reflect in the account 5 days after the journey date.

Earn reward points
There are two types of reward points- Express rewards, which earns 4 points for every Rs. 100 spent and Super Fast rewards, which earn 10 points for every Rs. 100 spent, the dates of both vary.

Points can only be accrued on full fare tickets and not on any concessional tickets or vouchers.

Redeeming Railway points
Only when a person has minimum 500 points, can he start redeeming his points. While redeeming the points to free railway tickets, each point corresponds to Re. 1 of the ticket fare. Railway points will be valid up to 3 years from the date of registration.

For redeeming points, you will have to choose the option of Pay through Railway at the payment gateway.

How to register for Shubh Yatra?

As the festive season gears up, as expected, these credit card companies are gearing up to come up with exclusive offers on their credit cards.  HDFC Bank Credit Cards have decided to offer up 200% more on rewards points on various of its credit cards that they offer except for classic credit cards.

For the Gold/Woman’s credit cards you can earn an accelerated reward points of 1.5 reward points per Rs. 150 spend as against the 1 reward point.  The spending threshold being Rs. 10,000.  Similarly for its Titanium Credit Card, HDFC has announced 3 rewards points for every Rs. 150 spend, with the spend threshold being Rs. 15,000.  For the Platinum credit cards, they have announced rewards points of 4 per Rs. 150 and with a spending threshold of Rs. 20,000.  Finally for the Signature Credit Cards, the rewards points being 6 per Rs. 150 spends and the spending threshold being Rs. 35,000.

0% Interest with SBI Card Balance Transfer

SBI Card has announced new offer with their existing balance transfer.  The usual balance transfer days to get the 0% interest was 60 days but as a special offer they have extended it for 90 days.  So you will not be incurred any interest rate for the full 90 days of your balance transferred amount with SBI Credit Card.  You can transfer any amount from any other bank’s credit cards for 0% per for 90 days.  But remember that you will need to pay processing fee for the balance transfer to SBI Card.

Considering the interest rate for a regular credit card you can save up to 3.35% p.m. on your other credit cards, if you have outstanding in any other bank’s credit cards which in itself are a huge saving.   For example if you have Rs. 10,000 as outstanding balance in any other credit cards then the interest rate you will need to pay that bank is Rs. 335 x 3 = Rs. 1005!  But if you transfer it to SBI Card you can save that but there is a processing fee of Rs. 249 or 2.5% (whichever is higher) of the total transferred amount.  Thus there is a saving of around Rs. 750 from the outstanding you have and thus you can pay back during that period and clear your debts.  After the 90 days period the interest rate will be the regular rate to that of your SBI Credit Card.
